Fantastisk oplevelse: This is a wonderful place to stay in Copenhagen.

Negativ oplevelse: I arrived at this hotel with very high expectations, having read the wonderful reviews…. However I was very disappointed with the overall experience. Indifferent staff that were more concerned with evening meal diners than hotel guests. Having spent several nights at a mainstream competitor a week earlier I’d suggest to anyone considering this establishment that they think about the value of staying in a wonderful building with excellently decorated rooms at the expense of very lazy service. To have no tea or coffee supplies in a room is pretty poor. I don’t normally expect much when it comes to mini bars in rooms, but to not even find a teabag was surprising. On my final morning I attempted to have a light breakfast before setting off for the airport. I was handed a menu and then ignored by both staff, who appeared to actively avoid making eye contact. After sitting there for 10 minutes without anyone asking if I’d like to order anything, I left and visited a local cafe instead. A young girl behind the bar booked a taxi for us, with clear instructions that it needed to be larger than normal to accommodate 3 passengers and 3 large bags. This was not done, as confirmed by the taxi driver, who was very apologetic, showing me the booking, without mention of the bags or passenger number. Again, the mainstream hotel managed this request with ease…. In short, there are better places to stay that will make you feel valued and welcomed without the price tag.

Fantastisk oplevelse: We stayed here 3 nights and enjoyed 2 times social dinner . This was the interesting experience during our trip . We met a couple from Ireland , 2nd time, we sit together with local family and had pleasure conversation with them!

Fantastisk oplevelse: We stayed here for four nights in February 2025, in the I Madsen apartment. That suite is one large kitchen/dining/living room, with a separate very large bedroom and sitting room, and shower/sink/toilet, laundry room, walk-in closet. Exceptional value and preternaturally friendly and helpful staff. The package that we got is an off-season thing, but it included breakfast (coffee, fresh rolls, cheese, soft-boiled egg, and Heavenly yogurt with granola) and their social dinners. These are family-style dinners served in their main dining room. You and your party will share a table with another party (often to your left and your right). The dinner begins with an orientation from the staff and the chef announces what is on the menu that night (they are good about collecting allergen information beforehand). Then the food is brought out on large platters. The idea is that the Danish speakers at the table will translate for the non-Danish speakers, and everyone gets to know one another. The bed was fantastic and comfortable, with soft feather duvets. The full kitchen was great because we were able to cook lots of meals and snacks and on one evening, order in food but have it around a private dining room table. Again, I will mention the staff - they seem wholly dedicated to everyone enjoying themselves and getting what they need or want.

Positiv oplevelse: Flere steder har regler om hvor eller hvornår, man som gæst må sidde med computer, og det er selvfølgelig helt fair. Men jeg har ikke før oplevet, at disse regler ikke er adviseret. Jeg havde en rigtig dårlig oplevelse hos jer, som let kunne være undgået, hvis der havde været et lille skilt om jeres computer-regler.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Fabulous stay in a wonderful location. The social dining meal was absolutely amazing - a highlight of our 5 week European winter holiday. Would love to return one summer.

Fantastisk oplevelse: A unique and beautiful place to stay. Warm friendly service, amazing decor and delicious food! We spent 5 nights in one of the apartments over the new year holiday. We had so much space to really relax in when we weren’t doing all the touristy stuff it almost felt like home. Communal dining was always an interesting experience whether chatting to locals, fellow guests or passers by. We loved everything about Kanalhuset.

Fantastisk oplevelse: We didn't stay at the hotel but came to their restaurant for the social dining experience and absolutely loved it. One of my highlights from my trip in Copenhagen. The staff was extremely friendly and I felt as though we were family in their dining room. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed getting to share family style. When I return, I hope to stay at their accommodations! the place looks very cozy.

Fantastisk oplevelse: We visited Kanalhuset for Christmas dinner, unsure of what to expect since it was our first time experiencing social dining. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and seated at a table with two other kind families. The food was absolutely delicious, and the social dining concept created a wonderful sense of community. The dinner was also set in a beautiful room with a nice atmosphere and a cool bar area. Highly recommend for anyone looking to try something unique and meet people from around the world!

Fantastisk oplevelse: Kanalhusetはホテルなんですがソーシャルダイニングで利用しました。フェッレスピースニン（fællesspisning）というらしい。はじめて参加しましたがこれすごくいいですね。おいしいし、安いし、デンマークの人と話す機会もある。1人150kr、予約して、18時半集合、19時からです。場所はクリスチャニア、ここはヒッピーの街と聞いていたから、マリファナを吸いながらご飯を食べることになったらどうしようと少しドキドキしていたが全然そんなことはなかった隣に座っていたデンマークの人は安いから来てると言ってました。だいたいグループで来てますね。クリスチャニアの人が来ている感じではなかった。食事はその時によって違うみたいで、この日はアジア料理でした料理がお皿で運ばれてきて、それぞれ自分のお皿に取り分けます。サラダ、ドレッシング、パリパリ、キムチっぽいの、肉の大根煮込み、お米かな。予約では満員でしたが、何席か空いていたので当日に来ない人もいるのかもしれません。面白かったです。ドリンクやデザートは別料金です。最初はFolkehuset Absalonに行こうと思ったけど満席でした。そっちは若い人が多いってデンマークの人が言ってました。

Fantastisk oplevelse: Das Kanalhuset ist ein wunderbarer Ort um abzusteigen. Diverse soziale Aktivitäten stehen zu Verfügung, wir haben zweimal beim social dinning mitgemacht. Eine tolle Erfahrung und das Essen ist super lecker in einer hohen Qualität und preiswert. Die Zimmer sind schlicht und gemütlich und haben den Charme des historischen Gebäudes. Das Bett war bequem und die Dusche hatte eine Regendusche. Mir hat nur ein Haarföhn gefehlt. Wir werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Lovely and very sociable place with super friendly staff, elegant rooms and delicious food. Highly recommend and will definitely stay there again when I come visit Copenhagen in the future. The location is also convenient from the main station and walking distance from some attractions like Freetown Christiania for example.

Positiv oplevelse: A group of four of us spent2-3 nights at the Kanalhuset during the Copenhagen Ironman competition. We chose it for several reasons : it is in a convenient place for the competition and Central Copenhagen; it was possible to have an apartment with kitchen facilities, which is critical if you need to get good quality calories into someone at 5 o clock in the morning or at 8 pm when they can't move, and we needed space to assemble and disassemble bicycles, plus room for all the other kit. We had an apartment not he second floor and a single room (mine) on the lower ground floor. I had booked after reading a recommendation in the FT. We all thought that the Kanalhuset was great and wanted to address several of the more negative comments on this site. First of all, if you are expecting a boutique hotel , you are likely to be disappointed. If you are looking for a more authentic and charming Danish experience, Kanalhuset is for you. The rooms are large and comfortable, the beds are great, the s towers hot and powerful. The decoration is simple and old fashioned - but excellent quality - "brown" wood furniture, ladder backed chairs, mid century and earlier, the real thing. The sofas and armchairs were bright and great. This is quite a homely place. We LOVED the bar area, which is c comfortable and friendly. We weren't able to do the communal dinner, but I walked by it on Saturday night and it looked as if people were having a great time and the dinner smelled wonderful. There are lots of communal activities which you can do if you wish - and I think it would be a fantastic place to stay if you were a solo traveller. All of the staff were lovely and helpful - and used their common sense - so when here was confusion over my booking, they simply phoned and sorted it out. One reviewer complained about noise. That is a fair charge, but probably not the hotel's fault. I have stayed in central Copenhagen 5 times now, from an Airbnb to a high end hotel and all have been noisy, The problem is that if you are in the historic bit, particularly in an historic building, as this one is, you are going to be near the canals, on which there are boats, restaurants and bars. The streets are cobbled and so passing cars rattle on the pavements. On the Friday and Sunday evening, it was really quiet; Saturday night was quite noisy. I think you have to plan for that here and in other hotels in Copenhagen - and if you want guaranteed peace and quiet, you'd better go to a modern hotel with a room facing away from the street. The second (very minor ) problem was that there were no curtains in the apartment, which didn't affect the main bedroom, but was a bit more difficult for the person on the bed in the sitting area. The hotel left an eye mask, which did the trick - but equally, one could put a towel or scarf over the windows if need be. SO the noise and the curtain issue cost one star, which is probably rather mean of me. We loved Kanalhuset; we loved the level of service and the fgeneral funkiness and humanity of the place. IT's a great place to stay if you are Iron-Manning or shopping on Stroget; it's a lovely area in a beautiful City. And it's a real experience as opposed to a dull stay in a global hotel room. Many thanks to the kind staff who helped with luggage storage and all sorts of things - we will definitely be back.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Lunch and Social Dining Restaurant also available for non-hotel-guests. I tried their vegetarian smørrebrød and home made raspberry soft drink and they were all delicious! The door was not too well sign posted so it was a bit of a challenge to find the place, but once I did - it was definitely worth it. Very friendly service too and atmospheric interior.

Fantastisk oplevelse: We stayed for four days and was upgraded to one of their amazing apartments. Spacious and clean, thoughtfully designed for guest comfort and beautifully decorated, with the most comfortable beds that we have ever had in any hotel. Historic building along a canal in a quiet and charming neighborhood, walkable to attractions and restaurants. The staff was courteous and helpful. Social dinner was fun and different. One of our favorite hotels ever!

Fantastisk oplevelse: I have consistently returned to the Kanalhuset the past few years because it is too good to pass up and feels like home when you’re there. The hotel is located in one of the most charming areas of Copenhagen (Christianshavn) and has a truly maritime ambiance to it. The neighborhood is quiet and lovely. The interiors of the hotel are exquisite, in both the bar area as well as the room itself. It’s luxurious without being stuffy and has great amenities. The shower is fantastic and the bed is comfortable. It’s always fun to look out the curtained windows for a view of the canal. In addition, Lina is one of the kindest greeters and was incredibly helpful for all the questions I had (and with a kind disposition for everything). Lastly, the food itself is delicious - they have great smorrebrød for lunch and the infamous communal dinners. I thoroughly enjoyed their morning buns for breakfast. Head to the Kanalhuset for a truly unique experience in Copenhagen.

Fantastisk oplevelse: My general philosophy about restaurants is that the food sets the bar and then the atmosphere and the service can move how I feel about the place a little bit. However, kanalhuset turned that on its head for me. Vibes are so good, and they do such a good job making you talk to your neighbors that even if the food were awful, I might recommend. The food is not awful though. We had: soft smoked cheese, asparagus with spicy tomato sauce, roasted potatoes with grapes, baked white fish (for the others), roasted eggplant, and a meh salad. Dessert was a cheese board and white chocolate mousse with dehydrated dark chocolate mousse and rhubarb sorbet. The rhubarb sorbet’s texture was amazing. To drink, I had caramelized plum snaps, which was interesting but not especially good. Decor is also very cool.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Hicimos la reserva online y la tenían guardada perfectamente. La comida casera y elaborada. Al ser mesas grandes y corridas, te "obliga" a hablar con los de al lado lo cual le da un toque diferente y divertido. Precio bastante bien para ser Copenhague. Bebida no incluida.

Fantastisk oplevelse: We went to their cafe/restaurant for a break after walking so much. It was a nice stop where we took the chance to charge the phone, rest the legs and have something to eat and drink. All was good. =)

Fantastisk oplevelse: I didn't stay at the hotel but had some amazing smorrebrod with great service in a cozy place. Prices are quite cheap compared to father areas in Copenhagen and the food and the service is excellent. Definitely a place to come back to!

Positiv oplevelse: Kanalhuset is perfect for individuals enjoying a calm, detached place with hand-picked Scandinavian-style furniture and decorations. As a first-time guest on business trip, I was upgraded to an apartment which was superb, but created a kafkaesque notion being on my own in a such large space. The best experience was the community dinner: greeted by the chef and team as a group, seated at a simple wooden table with narrow seating, granny’s china and collection of glasses on display, sharing platters of outstandingly exquisite food with strangers, I had the time of my life meeting new people in Martin and the pair of local Danish friends!

Fantastisk oplevelse: We had a social Dinner, it is hard to believe that we got this amazing dinner for 150 dkr. Highly recommend. If you are English, might be worth learning how to say hello in Danish as there are a lot of locals and it is just simply a sign of respect.

Fantastisk oplevelse: We stayed 3 nights at the hotel and had social dinner one night - this is truly an outstanding place and experience. Interior design and decor is tasteful and inviting. Location was quiet and colorful. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had booked a regular room which is below ground level but ended up getting a complimentary upgrade to an apartment. The apartment was above and beyond, but the rooms looked beautiful as well. We’ll definitely be back for a longer stay!

Fantastisk oplevelse: We hebben hier 3 nachten geslapen. Er zijn verschillende kamers en wij hadden grote kamers. Deze lagen verdiept waardoor je door het raam de benen van de voorbijgangers kon zien. Wij hadden geen geluidsoverlast ondanks dat we aan de straatzijde zaten. Het personeel is heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam. We hebben meegedaan met een gezamenlijk diner dat daar iedere avond wordt georganiseerd en wordt bijgewoond door gasten uit het hotel en locals. Aan lange tafels wordt daar een maaltijd geserveerd. Geen keus en alles vers. Het verblijf is ons uitstekend bevallen.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Bruger ikke Kanalhuset som hotel, så min anmeldelse er udelukkende for morgenmaden. Vi bestiller altid morgenmadssæt når vi er på Kanalhuset. Her får man god værdi for pengene; en bolle med smør, ost og syltetøj, youghurt med topping og et blødkogt æg. Det er altid lækker mad, juice og kaffe, og høflig betjening. Stedet er varmt og rummeligt og især et godt sted at have små børn med. Der er plads til leg på gulvet og har endnu aldrig oplevet, at sidde så tæt at man forstyrrer andre gæster.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Yövyimme tässä ihastuttavassa boutique-hotellissa. Kauneutta, ihana henkilökunta ja todella mukavat sängyt! Sijainti oli meille myös hyvä, liikuimme pyörillä ja kaikki hyvin saavutettavissa. Social dinner oli juuri alkamassa kun saavuimme hotelliin ja vaikutti aivan mahtavalle.

Fantastisk oplevelse: This is a great place to visit! I am always glad to be here. Here you can enjoy delicious food and relax in a cozy atmosphere. Dishes for every taste. Wonderful music of different styles, good sound quality. The service is at the highest level, the staff is friendly and caring.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Loved it here 20 minute train ride directly from the airport on the Metro. Get off at Christianshavn, straight walk along the canal to the hotel. Quirky hotel in a lovely location next to one of the canals. Lots of places to eat and drink nearby if you don't want to eat and drink in the hotel. We would recommend at least one "social dinner" at the hotel, great opportunity to meet and greet the locals and eat a lovely meal at the same time. Room (12) was a great size and had everything we needed. City centre is within walking distance, or you could hire a bike as the biking infrastructure is excellent. The staff here were very friendly and helpful and lucky for us, spoke perfect English.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Our new favourite hotel I think! Seriously good value for a beautiful hotel; the interiors are unique and stunning, the staff are friendly and accommodating and it’s a nice chilled neighbourhood but still quite central. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the bathrooms are stunning. We found it quiet and peaceful, a very restful stay! We had the breakfast a couple of times which was tasty, good produce and we also did the social dining one evening which I cannot recommend enough. The food was delicious, and plenty especially with us being vegetarian. It was great to chat to locals and travellers and really made our evening. Would recommend the dining experience even if not staying in the hotel as it’s such good value and honestly was our best dinner during our trip (and that’s saying something)! Thanks to all the staff that made our trip so special!

Fantastisk oplevelse: Ambiance pension de famille vraiment chaleureuse. Les chambres sont très spacieuses et confortables. Petits déjeuners copieux. Emplacement idéal pour partir en visite de la ville. Pensez à réserver un dîner. Cuisine familiale danoise excellente et repas sur de longues tables où tout le monde papotte. On recommande vraiment!

Fantastisk oplevelse: Outstanding social dinner concept and vibe, which is not something easy to pull off! Quite a room full of people even on a Monday night in mid January. Very friendly staff. Crowd was a mix of locals, solo regional business travelers, only 3 non-Scandinavians out of about 100 which was fun for this American. Food was a good value, only wrinkle our table remarked on was a bit too much salt in the main dish. The available drinks are super and also fairly priced. A great family business to support!

Fantastisk oplevelse: Kanalhuset is just about the most wonderful place you could choose to stay if you enjoy quality food, comfortable atmospheres and endearing people. I visited for the second time- for a total of 12 nights- and came to realize that it is a place that gets ever better with familiarity. Upon hearing that it was my friend’s first international trip, they sent a handwritten letter (thank you, Alma) and bottle of wine up to our room as a welcome/New Year’s gift. Each and every one of the staff members are absolutely lovely- Chris has a killer high kick, and Enna boasts incredible upper body strength. Sif went out of her way to write out a lengthy list of recommendations, and Liné (please excuse my spelling) provided us with a map and the most beautiful of smiles. Julie, Sasha, Maria, Sergaline and Bianc (again, spelling…) are like the sisters you’ve always wanted but never had, Sophie is charismatic and caring, Karl-emil is a best friend to everyone, Bartil (???) will laugh at you if you say his name wrong, Josephine is a hero, and Pi is just adorable. The chefs all have immense pride in their work (I’ve never eaten a single bad thing there, and I’ve never seen a place power hose down the kitchen Every. Single. Day.), and Toon will make you laugh every day if you let him. I’m definitely missing a few people with this list (sorry…) but truly, each and every person there is indescribably lovely. If I lived in Copenhagen, I’d be at the bar every day. If you’re visiting the city, do yourself a favor and choose Kanalhuset! If you’re lucky, you may even run into the owner, who pops in for dinner occasionally. If you meet him, you’ll understand right away why the establishment is as wonderful as it is. Ten out of five stars.

Fantastisk oplevelse: We came here for the social dinner and it was an exceptional experience. You can enjoy great food in good company. We will definitely come again.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Stayed here for 3 days. Very lovely place overall. Location is great, walking distance to transit and to city Center. Staff was friendly. Room was cozy and just what I needed. I also had the social dinner, excellent experience for a solo traveller.

Fantastisk oplevelse: Jeg har spist flere gange på Kanalhuset og Absalon (samme ejer), og er kæmpe fan af konceptet med fællesspisninger, yoga, julefrokoster mmm. Man kan også blot komme forbi for at drikke nogle øl, mens man sidder blødt i deres lækre omgivelser. Jeg glæder mig til at prøve deres koncept i Hornbækhus.

Fantastisk oplevelse: the most wonderful xmas dinner - totally worth the price! happy to have mingled with the people sitting next to us :)
